Mission

Job Details

This internship is for physicists, mathematicians and geophysicists in their last year of school, who are looking for a six-month internship where they can put their theoretical knowledge and problem solving skills to the test working on real Earth data.

We welcome all international students with valid work permit in France!

Please note that follow French regulation, we will need to sign an internship agreement with your school. Please verify in advance if it's possible to obtain from your side the signature of your school for this agreement.

What will you learn?

The world beneath our feet is both incredibly complex and the source of the natural resources fundamental to the functioning of our society. We use the latest signal processing, modelling and imaging techniques and among the most advanced compute facilities in the world to build high-resolution 3D images and models of subsurface structure and rock properties for our clients.

During your internship, you will be working inside a processing and imaging team, in close collaboration with our R&D department, in order to provide the latest available technology to our clients.

You will have the opportunity to work on one of the following topics:

Carbon capture: CO2 storage is a crucial step towards carbon neutrality. Within this new field, CGG, a worldwide leader in subsurface imaging, has a critical role to play by providing clear images of the subsurface which can be used to assess potential reservoirs and monitor them during their lifetime. During this internship you will be in charge of:

* Imaging seismic data in order better understand the reservoir structure
* Deriving porosity and permeability variation inside the reservoir
* Modelling and verifying decimation of acquisition to allow efficient and cost-effective monitoring of the field

Seismic imaging & Seismic reservoir characterization: During your internship, you will:

* Be involved in the processing of seismic data
* Integrate well data, seismic data and interpreted horizons into a database
* Understand and analyze the seismic response of the reservoirs through seismic modeling (Well to Seismic tie, Avo response, …)
* Monitor seismic processing and assess its impact on seismic reservoir response (Does it fit the established model?)

Qualifications

* Last year of Masters degree in any of the following disciplines: Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics/Astronomy, Natural Sciences with a Physics specialization.

Key Skills and Experiences

* Analytical approach to problem solving
* Enthusiastic attitude towards learning and passion for your subject
* The technical agility to adapt your existing knowledge to a new field
* Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts
* Evidence of leadership, teamwork or customer service either from involvement in university societies/extracurricular activities, volunteering and/or work experience/internships.

Additional information

The role is based in Massy, a town in the greater Parisian region of France.

Recruitment process:

Our recruitment process for this position consists 3 steps. Once your resume passes the screening round, you will be invited to a short automated video interview. Success at this stage is then followed by a final stage technical interview with some of our geophysical managers.
