Job title of the line manager: Purchasing Manager Job title of the functional manager (if any): Responsibilities: The Plant Buyer manages the production purchasing activities of the plants for which they are responsible, and works closely with the purchasing strategies of the Strategic Commodity Lead Buyers with the aim of constantly optimizing performance in terms of quality, cost and lead times. They are therefore the key point of production purchasing contact for plant managers.

Scope of Activities

To carry out some or all of the following activities:

Take ownership of production plant procurement performance:

  • Propose the Purchasing Productivity Plan for the production plants within your scope of responsibility, and validate it with the Strategic Commodity Lead Buyers.
  • Analyze all in-plant components and materials to identify opportunities for savings, and generate ‘redesign to cost’, ‘make-to-buy’ and supply chain optimization ideas.
  • Act as local commodities consultant for production plants (special purchases)
  • Manage production procurement performance for the production plants within your scope of responsibility:

  • Contribute to building the Procurement budget for each production plant
  • Control the cost reduction initiatives for those production plants within your scope of responsibility via PPP actions, and validate that they are consistent with production plant procurement budgets
  • Provide production plant managers with monthly PPP action plan progress reports, performance measurements (Quality, Costs and Lead Times) and forecasts
  • PPP preparation:

  • Carry out PPP actions as soon as they reach the implementation phase
  • Lead the implementation team (component qualification, procurement process implementation, ramp-up / ramp-down, etc.)
  • of Places orders in the program and development phases in accordance with the formal information supplied by Strategic Commodity Lead Buyers and/or Program Buyers
  • Lead the transfer implementation team (make-to-buy, change of manufacturing location, supplier bankruptcy, etc.)
  • Support production plants in their local projects and in the event of supplier crises:

  • Support the Supply Chain team to ensure constant improvement in supply lead times and global supply chain performance
  • Support sourcing managers in the event of supplier crises, and ensure that issues are escalated to the appropriate level.
  • Attend development phase supplier selection committees in preparation for production startup

    The activities are to be adapted for employees on work/study contracts (vocational training contracts, apprenticeship contracts, etc.) to remain consistent with their theory training.

  • Address and resolve QSE alerts raised by personnel
  • Ensure that your team has the skills required for their jobs (QSE training, accreditations, etc.)
  • Support QSE maturity development in your sector
  • 15 years’ experience.
