JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent will deal with Innovative Process modelling studies. He/she will need to have extensive technical experience with computer science, material science, process and/or engineering and conceptualise and lead complex technical efforts (transformational and transversal).

JOB SCOPE

The Process Innovation team is part of the Science & Technology department of the business area Refractory, Abrasives and Construction. It supports process innovation for RAC and may  provide expertise for the IMERYS group.

Main mission of the incumbent will be to work for the Precize project and will be in charge of the process modelling aspect.  He/she will have strong interactions with other S&T departments, industrial partners (Air Liquide) and Universities (CEMTHI, LGC Toulouse). The engineer can be asked for working transversally with other Business Areas.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core role responsibility: 

  • Conducts literature evaluations in preparation of process modelling and proposes  innovative programs of study.

  • Develop relationship with S&T department and/or universities (CEMTHI/ LGC Toulouse) to acquire physical data/ parameters for planned modelling

  • Performs advanced modelling studies in the field of combustion, heat transfer, dissolution and Gas/ liquid transfer.  

  • Participate at industrial/ pilot tests to confirm modelling results by performing measurements. Results to be fed back into the model as an improvement loop.

  • Has to challenge supplier and modelling companies aligned with our project objectives (technical model choice, parameter assumption and interpretation)

  • Collaboration with the IT department to propose software compatible with the scientific needs

  • Some travels in France can be required (less than 5% of the time)

  • Supports Imerys Safety and Health strategy, contributes to achieve related targets

General team responsibilities: 

  • Interprets, evaluates, and communicates research data and results for research projects. (Constantly) 

  • Participates and coordinates, as needed, cross-functional teams for especially complex and new to Imerys projects and technology developments. 

  • Writes research reports to document research results. 

  • Attends technical conferences and carry out active watch related to his field 

  • Perform process engineering modelling

  • Provide lab test plan and make them realised

  • Be able to analyse and make scientific assumptions

  • Project and transversal Management: capacity to lead a technical team

Education and Experience requirements

  • Ph.D. in Science, Mechanical, Chemical or Material Engineering  or related discipline Expertise in fluid dynamic, heat transfer, thermodynamic, combustion, kinetics  and/or process engineering .

  • Experience in H&M balance for complex systems

  • Experience in advanced modelling for 

    • OpenFOAM

    • Ansys Fluent

    • StarCCM+

  • Geometric and mesh design capability for process simulation

  • Knowledge of simulation of multiphase media with heat transfer

  • Knowledge of computational thermodynamics and phase transformations

  • Advanced skills in scripting and tool development in Python

  • Ability to develop simplified models (0D/1D/2D) with “house code”
